Portal is a new album by Fernando Otero, featuring a collection of his new chamber music compositions, released on May 22, 2026.
Argentine composer and pianist Fernando Otero, based in New York for three decades and with more than 16 albums released throughout his career, presents Portal, his latest work featuring the VSRE Ensemble, bandoneonist Ramiro Boero, guitarist Adam Tully, and mixing by Brian Forbes.
The album, running 33:33 minutes, brings together six original compositions — Umbral, Chod, Doce, Boreal, Deus Tronitrui, and Austral — plus one piece by Ennio Morricone, "Cinema Paradiso," arranged by Otero.
Otero explains: "I saw Pat Metheny playing 'Cinema Paradiso' and immediately thought, 'I need to do this with Ramiro on bandoneon, Adam on guitar, and a string orchestra.' I didn't overthink it—I just started arranging it and knew it had to be on the Portal album."
Featuring the VSRE Ensemble, Ramiro Boero (bandoneon), Adam Tully (guitar), and Fernando Otero (piano). Mixed by Brian Forbes.
Portal is firmly rooted in the artistic identity Otero has built throughout his career: a neoclassical voice with deep roots in tango.
A Grammy-winning artist recognized internationally for his work at the crossroads of tango, jazz, and contemporary music, Otero continues to expand a catalog that already includes collaborations with symphony orchestras, experimental projects, and multimedia productions presented across the world.
Otero has been named a Yamaha Artist by Yamaha Artist Services of New York and has joined their roster of Contemporary Piano Artists. Has has worked with correspondingly diverse collaborators including Paquito D’Rivera, the Kronos Quartet, and Quincy Jones.
Otero’s works are published by Warner Chappell Music and his albums have been released by Nonesuch Records, Warner Music, Harmonia Mundi, and World Village.
